14km west of Kalpetta. Chembra is the highest peak in North Kerala about 2100 meters above sealevel. This is among the most picturesque Hill stations close to the Western Ghats and delight to trekkers and nature lovers. Reaching the top is a bit hazardous. The nearest town is Kalpetta. From there one can reach Meppadi hills. A four km drive from here can take you to the foot of the Chembra hill.Further, an 8km trek through grass lands take You to the hill top. The valley is a long stretch of winding tea estates. The greatest attraction of the top of the peak is a lake that has never been dry. The peak is rich in fauna and flora, one could find in the vast jungles herd of sambar, elephant, bison, wild pig, jackal, porcupine, bonnet macaque and giant Malabar squirrel. Climbing this peak is a challenging mountaineering endeavour and would take a full day. The surrounding areas offer exceptional photo opportunities. |

The perinnial fresh water lake, nestled among wooded hills,is the only one of its kind.The natural fresh water lake, very wide and deep is one of the rare reservoirs of water in Wayanad. Surrounded on all sides with meadows and trees, this place is a center of solitude for profound travellers. About 3 km from Lakkidi, is this small and placid freshwater lake, 21ft at its deepest and covered in parts with lotus flowers. Pookote Lake is the most visited tourist spot in Wayanad. Flanked by green hills, it does make a pleasant spot for picnics and boating. In the vicinity of the lake are a children's park, an Uravu Eco-shoppe selling local handicrafts and spices, a nursery and a freshwater aquarium, when you are done with the row-and paddle-boats. While you wait for a free boat, you could take a stroll along a 2 km pathway around the lake. Replete with a cafe and restaurant, this is a good setting for day outings with family. |

55 km east of Kozhikode and 5km south of Vythiri) Is a place of great scenic beauty with picturesque hills, streams and luxuriant vegetation, one of the highest locations in Wayanad and registered the second highest degree of rainfall in the world. 3 km from the Pookote Lake. The natural fresh water lake, very wide and deep, is one of the rare resorvoirs of water in Wayanad surrounded all sides by meadows and hills. It has become a favourite picnic spot. You will have to negotiate nine hairpin bends, making for a thrilling ride. Drive out from Lakkidi towards the ghat pass. Just before the ghat begins, you will come across a curious sight-the famous Chain Tree of Lakkidi, a banyan tree with chains wrapped around its trunk. |
